This, I might say is one of the loveliest paintings I've made in a long while! Just love the beautiful reflections of the shutters on the table. Thelema is an award winning wine from South Africa, and this here is a 2004 Pinotage! So all in all a collection of a few of my favourite things.
A lovely depiction of sunflowers against French shutters sets off brilliant yellows. I tried to really intensify the contrasts in temperature which in turn liven up a very striking painting.
I love the play of light on sunflowers, the contrast of blue and yellow, the rhythm of uneven leaves netted together, I love everything about sunflowers! And tried to capture that in this work. Think it worked out well and am going to play with this theme for as long as summer lasts in these flowers.
After making a turn at Costco yesterday, I came home with one huge watermelon and therefor a little bit more time to paint it as it takes longer for my family to fly through a watermelon than say...cherries! The summer is at it's peak at present and I love how the dappled light hits this scene.
Peaches are in season and that means my husband buys them! So, just before the kids devour them all I had to paint a few for remembrance! The silver vase has just arrived with our furniture which was store in SA for 4 years! I am happy to have a few of my favorite things around again
A delightful painting inspired by my old blue shutters. The play of textures, colors, shadows and shapes, all working together to make what I think is one of my best paintings, if I may say so myself!

A warm and special painting with beautiful reflections. Dappled light from under my big California Oak tree, just outside my kitchen casts lovely purple shadows in the morning. I like to capture the play of light on special objects I collect on my thrift store outings!
This painting reflects what I see when I peek over my easel every day, which might give you a clue about where I paint.....in my lounge! Which, I must add, has the best light in the house and also makes me feel connected to my kids, animals and all that goes on while I'm happily painting away!
The quaintest little French shop in our Valley, TANCREDI & MORGEN, lent me one of their antique French galvanized pitchers as inspiration and this is what I did with it. Though it is grey and not so grand, I think it came out just fine what with the bright fruit and flowers to boot!
This is a second in a series of paintings depicting a delft vase with roses, peonies and lemons. The late afternoon light shines on the French pitcher which makes for interesting shadows and lively highlights. It will look darling in any kind of French style atmosphere.
A French style depiction of pomegranates from my friend's garden whom also gave me the lovely platter for Christmas! I made this painting for her mom who took it back to South Africa with her.
A vibrant still life depicting a French style setting of a pitcher, grain sack and delft vase. Cool shadows set off vibrant colors. A lovely color study that will brighten up any room.
My dear friend Jane gave me a bag of cherries before leaving for Arkansas, and boy did I have to move fast to take a picture of it in this bowl as cherries don't have a very long shelf life in our house!
